Abstract

Drama is regarded as the oldest form of Fine Arts. It represents the whole feelings and expectations of life with great extent. It is not only used to aware the people but also tragical elements played its role to minimize the affects of stark realities. Agha Hasher is considered as the Shakespeare of India. He wrote its first play "Murid-e-Shak" in 1899. It was presented on the stage for first time by "Alfred Natic Mandale" of Bombay. The fame of this play spread far flung not only in the subcontinent but also among Urdu speaking class of the world. He wrote many plays whose importance cannot be denied. He was a creative writer who paid considerable attention to the creation of drama but could not handle its scripts. This is the reason why the text of the plays he created had many errors which required its editing. This article sheds light on the role played by Ishrat Rehmani in editing Agha Hasher's plays.
