Abstract

The art of using Talmihat in Urdu literature is very deep, colorful, and diverse. This art is one in which the poet in his words uses historical events, legendary stories, a person or personality, a famous event, a scientific problem, literature or the climate of a specific region, myth or mythological and personal life, situations, and events. A coherent and systematic series of allusions can be found in the poetry of Lucknow's representative poet Aatish. The prophet that Aatash has used the most is Hazrat Yusuf (peace be upon him). The stories of Hazrat Adam, Hazrat Ibrahim, Hazrat Sulaiman, with the stories of Hazrat Esa, Hazrat Musa, Hazrat Ayub, Hazrat Noah, Hazrat Ishmael, Hazrat Maryam, among other Quranic references are Abu Lahab, Gabriel, Israfeel, Azrael, religious allusions such as the incident of Karbala, the bravery of Hazrat Ali, religious festivals, Eid, Shab-e-Barat, Ramadan, Eid Ghadeer, Holi, mosque, temple, church, Imam Mahdi, Imam Hussain, Sheikh and Brahmin, Rawan, Rama etc. are also mentioned in the poetry of Aatash. The allusions of Shireen Farhad, Laila Majnu, Kasra Faridun, Hazrat Khizr, Sikandar, Jamshed, Mansoor, and Ibrahim Adham have all been used by Aatash with great skill and beauty in his poetry, which makes him a master poet having command on language and art of poetry.
