Abstract

Movements and trends have played a very important role in the evolution, expansion, diversity and changes of Urdu language and literature. The two movements which influenced Urdu language literature the most are the Aligarh Movement and the progressive movement. The Aligarh Movement freed Urdu prose from the shackles of Musja' and Muqfi, and the most important role in this is the founder of Aligarh Movement, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Limiting it to learning, writing and its skills, large lectures on its development are not given but given. The book under review "Urdu Literature Movements" is the research paper of respected Dr. Anwar Sadeed, on which he received his PhD degree from Punjab University. In it, he has presented a detailed outline of these movements of Urdu literature. Ten editions of "Urdu Adab Ki Tehrikeen" have been printed so far.
