Abstract

The research paper "The Echoes of Death in 'Dar-o-Rasan' (A Psychological Analysis of the Characters)" presents a comprehensive examination of Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi's shorty Story, delving into the intricate psychological dynamics within a family entrenched in the grim profession of execution. While scrutinizing characters like Jumma, his wife, and their son Natho, the study uncovers profound psychological ramifications. Jumma's sadistic inclinations, possibly stemming from childhood trauma, are juxtaposed with his wife's evolution from repulsion to a morbid fascination with death, indicative of PTSD. Natho, tragically ensnared in the family legacy, experiences a profound psychological breakdown. However, the narrative's complexity deepens with the introduction of the grandson Khairo, who, influenced by his grandmother's tales of death, becomes desensitized to violence, eventually committing a brutal murder. As his father Natho, torn by grief, fulfills the duty of execution, the tragedy culminates in the demise of both father and son. This narrative arc serves as a stark reminder of the cyclical nature of violence and the profound psychological toll it exacts, urging reflection on the ethical dimensions of such professions and the urgent need for comprehensive psychological support. Qasmi's work emerges as a poignant exploration of trauma's enduring scars, advocating for societal change and compassionate intervention to mitigate its devastating effects, particularly on the vulnerable within society.
