Abstract
This article consists on the curriculum services of John Shakespear. He was a prominent orientalist who never visited India but spent his whole life promoting the Urdu language. Apart form Grammar and Dictionary of Urdu language, two of his books, “An Introduction to Hindustani Language” and “Selections in Hindi” were written solely to fulfill curriculum requirements. A famous orientalist Garcin de,tassy taught his students “Selections in Hindi” for a long time in Europe. Selections in Hindi” was published in six editions while “Introduction to Hindustani language” was published only once. The first one is consists on Urdu translation of Khulasa-tu-Twareekh by Sher Ali Jaff ry (Afsos). Basically this is Urdu text for European learners who wanted command on Urdu language. And the second one is consists on Alphabets of Urdu, Persian and Nagri, it also have Grammar and Dictionary of Urdu. These volumes were extremely important at that time and this article provides a brief analysis and summary of these curriculum books of John Shakespeare.
