Abstract
The trend of Anti-Imperialism in Urdu short stories is not explicitly documented. However, Urdu literature, particularly poetry, has a rich history of expressing anti-imperialist sentiments. For instance, during the Indian Freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947, Urdu poets played a significant role in mobilizing public opinion against British Raj. Their works are testaments of the shifting image of the nation that ultimately led to the formation of independent India in 1947.Urdu Short stories, just like poetry, gave wide space to all forms of anti-British resistance going on in India and abroad, and it quickened the pace of the freedom movement. This research explores the dominant nationalistic trends in Urdu short stories during the first half of the 20th century. This article does highlight the broader context of anti-imperialist sentiments in Urdu Afsana. It’s plausible that similar themes could be found in other genres as well. For a more accurate understanding, we have explored specific authors( Praim Chand, Krishan chandar ,Rajindar singh Baidi , Saadat Hassan Manto) within Urdu Afsana who were known for their anti-imperialist views.
