Abstract

Jameela Hashmi is an important and prominent Urdu Fiction writer. Her first short story “Laal Aandhi was published in 1957. Her famous Novel “Talash-i-Baharan” was published in 1961. This novel was also awarded with the Adam Ji Literary Award. The Main theme of this Novel is women and their rights.  In this novel the Inferior status of Indian women, their social explorations and oppression is depicted in very impressive way. The main character of the novel is Kanwal Kumari Thakur, is an ideal character, through which the Indian woman dreams of freedom, independence and greatness. In this novel, instead of forcing her ideas on the reader, the novelist has placed the ideas of both the feminists and the anti-feminist in front of the reader and left the decision to them.
