Abstract

The importance of rituals of joy and sorrow in human societies is well-established. These practices are shaped by the specific conditions and beliefs of each nation and community, and they become so ingrained over time that they cannot be erased overnight by the decree of a king or the dominance of a group. The pursuit of happiness and joy is a natural human inclination, and to achieve this, various methods are constantly sought. Some of these methods are religious and social, national and international, while others become regional and local customs and festivals. These rituals and festivals bring much happiness to human life; without them, life would be very dry and dull, which is contrary to human nature. Therefore, in an Islamic society, various festivals are organized to express gratitude for the blessings of Allah. These days of joy and happiness are essentially a means of showing gratitude for blessings.Just as in Islam, other revealed religions also have numerous religious, national, and social festivals and rituals of joy and sorrow, as happiness and sorrow are natural emotions. The expression of these emotions gives rise to many rituals that reflect the religion and culture of the society in which they are practiced. Judaism also has its own established rituals and festivals of joy and sorrow, which are detailed in its religious literature. Below is a brief overview of the customary rituals observed by Jews, which they celebrate with great respect and attention. This research study delves into the traditional practices of joy and sorrow within Judaism, examining their social importance and benefits. The study aims to understand how these rituals are observed, their historical and cultural significance, and their impact on Jewish communities. By analyzing various aspects of these practices, the study highlights their role in strengthening communal bonds, providing emotional support, and preserving cultural heritage.
