Abstract

In the early stages of its evolution, Urdu was known by various regional and other names. This language did not originate in a specific region or period; instead, its formation and development were significantly influenced by the languages of different regions of the Indian subcontinent and other world languages. Urdu became the lingua franca of the Indian subcontinent during the era of Muslim rule and is now considered a global and universal language. Its nature is hybrid, and its structure is inherently flexible, which accommodates diverse influences well. The emergence of Urdu is the result of a gradual evolution, preserved from any artificial modifications. The status of Urdu as a confluence of various languages has shaped its unique character, distinguishing it from other world languages. This article will explore the historical, civilizational, cultural, and linguistic factors that underscore the need and importance of Urdu, and will argue for its implementation at the official level.
