Abstract

In this paper, two of Asghar Nadeem Syed's televised dramas, "Dariyaa" and "Chand Grahan," are analyzed from cultural, political, and social perspectives. The paper examines the hardships faced by the people of the Cholistan desert, who lack even the most basic necessities of life. "Dariyaa" portrays the aspirational dreams of the Cholistan inhabitants. Its characters, incidents, and scenes all reflect the unique desert culture. In contrast, "Chand Grahan" tackles the political and social turmoil plaguing Pakistan, where feudal lords dominate the political landscape. Bureaucratic apathy and sensationalist journalism are depicted as societal ills that cripple the entire system. The drama also sheds light on resistance movements fighting for social reform. These movements are shown to achieve some success against the corrupt forces that have eclipsed society.
