The English Language Teaching in Religious Institutes of Pakistan

Abstract

The current paper is an attempt to explore the nature of English language teaching as a Second or a foreign language as it is taught and used in Pakistani educational institutes. It is argued that English is not only a colonizing language but also being used as a lingua franca in the every nook and corner of the world. English used in Pakistani perspective reflects Islamic values and embodies sensitive domains of social life. A gap has been bridged between English language teaching and religious institutes through analysis of the current debates on the issues of Englishlanguage. The developed framework can be used to analyze the connection between Islamic values and English language.
