Abstract

Shaukat Siddique was a famous novelist, fiction writer and dramatist of Urdu literature. "Khuda ki Basti" is the first novel of Shaukat Siddique which was published in 1958 by Maktaba Naya Rahi, Karachi. So far, about 100 editions of this novel have been published. This novel has also gained international fame and it has been translated into 20 different languages of the world. In 1960, this novel was given the "ADAM G" literacy award. This novel fully reflects the Pakistani society. Shaukat Siddique has definitely depicted the society created on the lines of fiction, but has analyzed the social and human psychology in such an artistic way that the story is very close to real life. Its characters and plot have made it a masterpiece by creating compatibility with the subject. The main characters of this novel are Raja and Nosha. In this novel, the weaknesses of the lower, inferior, weak class and all the evils and defects of upper class have been described. Moreover, the novelist has highlighted the social problems of colonialism, economic exploitation, moral decline, exploitation of women's rights, sexual exploitation, and the extreme selfishness of relationships which the modern society is suffering from. All these social problems have been discussed in the following article.
