Abstract

Literature is the reflection of a society. Novel mirrors human society in a better way because of its broader canvas and plot compared to other genres of literature.The Urdu novel has also shown the social problems in it. Abdullah Hussain has beautifully depicted the Indo-Pak society in his novels. "Baagh" is his second novel after "Udaas Nasaleen" in which he has presented the problems of the newly formed country, Pakistan. He has also artistically portrayed the social issues of Occupied and Azad Kashmir. The police culture of Pakistan and the poverty of occupied Kashmir are an important part of the novel. The freedom movement the Kashmiries spaning over seven decades and their pathetic living are also reflected in the novel. Undoubtedly the social reflection of Pakistan along with occupied Kashmir makes "Baagh" an important novel of the Urdu literature.
