Abstract

This article aims at the depiction of collective and individual agony and problems 
faced by the modern society. The contemporary poetry is a portrayal of social 
differences and incidents that affect the conscious and subconscious of people. 
The ever-increasing rat race of materialism and lack of spirituality has drawn a 
deep chasm between the Madern Man, s soul and body. It has disrupted the 
harmony that existed before this chaos. The contemporary poetry defines the 
Man, s search for his identity, his deep-rooted self-doubt, sexual perversion and 
the disintegration of the basic structure of religion and morality through various 
poetic modes. This paper aims to analyze such images, metaphors and symbols 
used in the contemporary poetry in the same context.
