Abstract

Critics among the traditionalist “Muhadditheen” used to defectify a Hadith based on certain criteria.
Imam Bazzar is one honorable name in the field of Hadith defection. This research delves into his scholarly
work, Musnad Al-Bazzar (Collection of Prophetic traditions), an esteemed book on the aforementioned
subject/ theme. The entire research work has three main parts. The first part briefly introduces the author
and his book under study. The second part explains the Science of Hadith Defection “ „Ilal” and overview
of the literature on the subject. The core of this research work lies in the third part, which identifies the
criteria of Hadith Defection “ „Ilal” adopted by Imam Bazzar accompanied by illustrative examples. It also
encompasses the study of defectification in the light of rules laid down by the well-known critics and
traditionalist „Muhadditheen.’ The Research Methodology adopted here is 'Descriptive Analytical
Approach' as applied on Hadith collection methods to review and extract the criteria of defect in the light
of methodology adopted by Imam Bazzar. The researcher concludes that the criteria of Hadith Defection
adopted by Bazzar are uniqueness, illusion, defilement, divergences in attribution, interval, concealment
and conduct.
