Abstract
In 1958 when first Martial Law was imposed, writers started using symbolism in Punjabi fictions to highlight social and political issues for the expressions of their emotions. Nazar Fatima “Pat Jharr” expresses dreams of migrated people of eastern Pakistan. Riffat has revealed a story of love and faithfulness through her fiction by using tree as a symbols in “Jantri”. In another fiction “Chunni” Riffat used dreams as a symbol for a symbol of modesty in Eastern culture. In “Jugg” Riffat has used word Allah Wali as a symbol for a transgender. Khalida Malik and Naila Sadaf have highlighted the issues of women in eastern society by using different symbols. Parveen Malik has showed tense political conditions through symbols after the hangingof a political leader in her “Chup Da Pehra” and “Ratti Na Rola”. In “Aapy Kary Nian” she exposed the unjust behavior with poor Muslim countries through symbols. Afzal Toseef, Farkhanda Lodhi and Azra Waqar also criticized political conditions of that time through symbols. Parveen Malik and Farkhanda Lodhi also displayed miserable conditions of Indo-Pak partition. Zoya Sajid used symbols to highlight issues of an individual. Thus the writers unveiled social, political and individual issues by using symbolism.
