Abstract

Urdu-Hindi Controversy has been a subject of linguistic interest due to its typical yet unique nature. It’s not merely a case of diagraphia but indicates a number of underlying reasons which lead to the standardization of Urdu language by setting it on two separate paths. This article explores the basic and important issues which have been the cause of this controversy. The historical, religious, socio-political and linguistic aspects of this controversy have been discussed to understand the problems that lead to an ever widening gap between the two speech communities which shared a common culture for centuries.
