Abstract

Criticism is a broader term. It encompasses human beings’ actions, attitudes, and aptitudes which help us look into ups and downs of conditions and determine our perspective and goals. Criticism allows us to probe into good and bad deeds of people and analyse them. This can help an individual or society know their short coming and bringing a balance into their lives. We can say that criticism plays a vital role in making society positive and bringing quality changes into human lives. In the same way literature too is linked with human life and its societal relationships. Literature is in face based on society and human life. Literature depicts a society. Hence literary criticism on its limited scale while evaluation literature, in fact evaluates human beings. Literary criticism also looks into situation by making a triangulation of literature, society and human beings. In this regard, the researcher has analysed the effects on Urdu literature of progressive movement and literary criticism. By making a diachronic study, the result that came to the front was that progressive movement has greatly affected Urdu literature. It has also provided raw material for many other movements.
