Abstract

Questioning has been the main source of knowledge since the ancient days of the human race. It is a great technique of teaching as well. We find the approach of questioning before teaching one of the most efficient techniques in the teaching process. Our religion, Islam has appreciated questioning for the purpose of seeking knowledge. This study aimed to review the questioning technique in teaching from the bibliography of the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his companions, may Allah be pleased with them. Examples of the questions of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, are narrated in the study and the educational impact of the questions is addressed. Barriers of questioning, such as shyness are also discussed. It has been proven that questions are the most effective way of learning as well as teaching and preaching. We find the Islamic literature full of techniques that are very useful in the modern teaching approaches and some of them are already adapted where the others should be adopted.
