Abstract

Arabic literature had been rich with elegic poetry since pre-Islamic times. ELEGY which is poetry of mourning has been genre of great many numbers of literary intellectuals of the Subcontinent. Their piece of writing is enriched with excellence of Arabic language. This paper aims at giving the true picture as what are the qualities of Arabic Elegy writing in Pakistan. At its very outset, origin of elegy writing is traced briefly, then it proceeds towards giving details of major topics of Arabic Elegy writing in Pakistan, in which topics are dealt with considering their importance into account as well as certain other aspects, adopting pragmatic, cosmic, scholastic and realistic approach. Elegies written in Pakistan are of wide range taken with respect to topics. Elegies are written on the death of near and dear ones, especially of parents , teachers, spiritual leaders , and other close relatives as well as on the demise of friends. Elegies are also written for showing grief on religious leaders (on their demise) as well as for paying tribute to them
