Abstract

The twentieth century was marked by chaos and anarchy due to both world wars. Scientific progress had profound effects on civilization. The trend of describing the history of this period in Urdu literature, specially fiction and novels, developed rapidly. In the period of Mir Taqi Mir, from the destruction of Delhi to Ghalib’s letters, there is a description of political and social history in different contexts. Before the creation of Pakistan, history has been a part of literature in every period from Maulvi Nazir Ahmad to Prem Chand. After the establishment of Pakistan, progressive writers reopened the connections of literature with history. Through Ismat Chugtai, Quratul Ain Haider and Ahsan Farooqi, this chain reaches Abdullah Hussain. Abdullah Hussain’s popularity in urdu literature is due to political and social history in his novels and fiction. Through his writings, he tried to convince that political conditions effect the society and whole nation has to bear the result of weak political conditions.
