Abstract

This article explores the role of Urdu pronominal clitics in assigning θ-roles. These clitics not only mark cases and grammatical relations but also assign different θ-roles, playing a significant role in constructing the argument structure of Urdu. While abstract Case is inherent to nominal lexical items, these clitics materialize the realization of case at the surface level in Urdu. They mark θ-roles such as Agent, Experiencer, Theme, Patient, Instrument, Force, and more.
