Abstract
While analyzing poetry we often come across literary terms like symbol, metaphor or simile and we are quite aware of the true meanings of these terms but when it comes to poetic image and Imagery, it becomes a different ball game. Imagery is not that simple a term. In fact this term represents another kind of language that can answer many questions raised by the critics in effort to define the relation between language and literature and to explain the creative process. It is a long discussion if we relate imagery to the structural theories of language and poetry and requires quite a deep study of the critical discourse through history. In this short essay we have tried to understand the basic meanings of the term and to explain how rich and multidimensional this term can be when applied to various literary theories.
